Our Story
Leya was the light of our lives, she was the most caring, kind, beautiful soul. Leya had a love for music and a voice of an angel, everywhere Leya went she sang.
At just 16 Leya suddenly became unwell, after multiple trips to the GP Leya was rushed into hospital with stroke like symptoms.
Getting a diagnosis was really challenging, we knew something was seriously wrong but the doctors couldn’t work out what was going on. After 16 days in hospital, 5 bone marrow aspirations, 2 lumbar punctures, and an ovarian biopsy Leya was finally diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. Our world came crashing down.
Leya was given chemotherapy following diagnosis and Leya reached remission. Devastatingly this was short lived, Leya relapsed early July 2025, she was treated with trial drugs but nothing seemed to work.
On the 1st August 2025 our beautiful Leya passed away surrounded by her family.
The day Leya passed away part of us went with her. We are heartbroken, our beautiful girl took our hearts with her.
During Leya’s treatment she was supported by Young Lives v Cancer. Our social worker went above and beyond at every step of the way for her, and us, nothing was too much trouble.
Since Leya passed away our social worker has been an amazing support and continues to be. We are forever grateful.
