Arabella's Story
One very normal Tuesday last October 2024, we took our daughter Arabella for a blood test. On the same day we were asked to return to the hospital urgently, and any parent's nightmare became our reality. We were rushed into a private room and we knew something was wrong. In that moment everything changed, Arabella was diagnosed with B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) at five years old. Suddenly, our daughter so full of energy and smiles became a cancer patient. We spent weeks in hospital away from our other children, alongside Arabella battling intense chemotherapy, lumbar punctures, countless blood tests, blood transfusions, the list goes on. Normal things like going to school and playing with friends suddenly stopped. Like all children touched by cancer, she has endured what no child should experience.
Among all of this, we have been lucky with an amazing support network and we have met some incredible people who have gone above and beyond. From the doctors and nurses at Barnet, North Middlesex and Great Ormond Street Hospitals to numerous charities who have made a huge positive impact.
Young Lives vs Cancer helped us navigate when we were lost and make sense of things we knew nothing about. They supported not just Arabella but her sisters and our whole family unit and we are forever grateful. Everyday 12 children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer. Young Lives vs Cancer help families like ours find the strength to face everything cancer throws at them.
The last few months have been intense to say the least but we are lucky that treatment has been effective so far, Arabella's cancer is in remission for now. We still have a long road ahead with treatment due to end in November 2026 but we stay positive and we keep fighting! Inspired by Arabella's strength through all of this we are determined to make a positive difference through fundraising!
Alongside family and friends, we plan to take on fitness races, head shaving, half marathons and more! We hope you can join us in supporting this charity. No amount is too small, we can make a difference together!
